Some Interesting Facts About Wilmette That You May Not Know...

Wilmette is known as a "Tree City" because of its urban forest which has more than 18,600 trees, including 150 species.

1855 – Chicago and Milwaukee Railroad tracks were built, making the settlement of Chicago's North Shore possible. Wealthy landowners built a station, at their own expense, so the railway would stop in Wilmette.

1891 – Wilmette Woman's Club was founded as a philanthropic reading club and their Sunday Evening Supper Club, hosted speakers like William Jennings Bryan and Jane Addams.

1900 – Sheridan Road construction completed, allowing vehicles to get to the North Shore. This tripled Wilmette's population.

1972 - The Curtis Curling Center hosted the United States Men's Curling Championship. The Wilmette Curling Club won the 1984 United States Men's Curling Championship and tied for 3rd place at the men's World Curling Championshipsin 1985.
