If you like to bike - try the “hipster highway” (Milwaukee Avenue) cuts directly through the neighborhood, you can jump on The 606 or head down to West Loop. This busy main artery has the most well-protected bike lanes in the city to keep you safe.

In the 1980s, developers started planning to revitalize River West. In the 90's, abandoned warehouses started being converted into office space, artist lofts and condos. Now luxury apartments with some of the best skyline views in the city are everywhere. Bloomer Chocolate Factory is famous for the scent of chocolate throughout River West, enjoy the aroma and a cup of coffee at Big Shoulders Coffee, Windy City Cafe or Matchbox. The Chicago Tribune built its gigantic production center in 1982 in River West, which has blocked access to and the view of the Chicago River for nearly 40 years. Plans for the demolition of the building and the opening of 37 acres of riverfront views are now zoned for mixed-use development and will connect downtown’s beautiful River District up to River West.
