Some interesting info about

North Center...

Northcenter was settled in the late 19th century and early 20th century by mostly Germans who worked in the industrial corridor along Ravenswood Ave, and industrial plants along the Chicago River.

Northcenter has grown since the 1870s when the area was only accessible by the Chicago River and Little Fort Road (now Lincoln Avenue). Northcenter is considered a vibrant neighborhood with retail, restaurants, live music and theater and Lane Tech High School. Northcenter was voted one of Chicago's best neighborhoods by the Chicago Magazine in 2014.

Northcenter's cultural and ethnic history includes German, Polish, Czech, Romanian, Serbian, Greek, Croatian, and French. That history is evident in the architectural charm of the homes and buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Selig Polyscope Company produced some of America's earliest motion pictures here. Along Byron Street near Oakley and Western, Selig's historic production buildings are now being used as lofts and retail space.

Roscoe Village, is not on any official city map, but Chicago residents say the boundaries are Addison on the north, Belmont on the south, Ravenswood Avenue on the east and the Chicago River on the west. Roscoe Village is bisected by Roscoe Street. The neighborhood is populated by businesses and residents. Local historian and longtime neighborhood resident Chuck Betzold says that people have been living in Roscoe Village since the 18th century, when the area was inhabited by the Fox Indians.

From 1904 to 1967, Roscoe Village was home to Riverview Park, a 76-acre amusement park, stretching from Belmont to Lane Tech High School, and from Western to the Chicago River. Today, the Area 3 Police Headquarters, DePaul College Prep, and Riverview Plaza Center occupy the space.

St. Ben's is an unofficial neighborhood, named for Saint Benedict's Parish and Roman Catholic School on Leavitt. Hamlin Park neighborhood is bounded by Belmont on the north, Ravenswood on the east, Diversey on the south and the Chicago River on the west. Hamlin Park is in the center of the neighborhood.
